Happiness is a field full of sunflowers in summer

It’s sunflower season in Japan! These beautiful fields can be found in Chino city, Nagano Prefecture. They are most commonly called ‘himawari’ in Japan, but you may also see other nomenclature like ‘nichirinso’ or ‘higuruma’ 🌻

.

Fun facts:

  • Although the sunflower looks like it’s one gigantic flower, technically, it’s a bunch of tiny flowers (or florets) closely packed together

  • Vincent van Goph’s famous painting, Sunflowers, sold for an eye-watering $39 million in 1987 to Japanese insurance magnate Yasuo Goto 💰

  • The tallest sunflower ever recorded reached an impressive height of 9.17 metres!
